ENGL 349B Course Introduction
Course Summary: In this course, students will read and discuss selected short works by James Baldwin. This course provides students the opportunity to think deeply about writing and thinking critically about Baldwin’s work while allowing the professor to follow his lead. The instructor will guide the class in developing a critical reading of selected texts and through discussions, readings, and small group work allow students to gain an understanding of Baldwin’s life, his ideas, and his writing. No prior knowledge of James Baldwin is required.

(3 Credits) Welcome to the website for ENGL 349B. This is an intensive study of one of James Baldwin’s famous novels, “Go Tell It on the Mountain” (1952). Professor will provide a general introduction to the novel followed by class discussions and individual projects. All readings are assigned. No tests or exams. The course is offered during the spring 2017 semester and is taught as a two-credit online, self-paced course. Students will be required to participate in weekly live Zoom calls with their faculty coach to receive ongoing feedback on their writing.
