theprocessesoftransformationofperipheralareasoï¬eramodelofsocialmobility
astheybecomethematerialembodimentsofnotionsofprogress.6Asperipheriesimprove

theymaybecomeinaccessibletothepoorestresidents.Thus
peripheralurbanizationisaprocessthatisalwaysbeingdisplaced
reproducedsomewhereelsewherelandischeaperbecauseitismoreprecariousordiï¬culttoaccess.Thispresentsmethodologicalchallengesforthestudyofperipheralurbanization.Tocaptureitstemporality
